In his late teens, following a brief but somewhat unsuccessful foray into the profession of Chartered Accountancy where they said he’d be better apprenticed to a circus, Eric went to London and hung around Denmark Street a.k.a. After a very short spell of piano lessons which were soon abandoned, Eric started playing by himself and became a self-taught pianist who was never able to read music!
